Deborah A. Metzger, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Metzger is Medical Director, Harmony Women's Health, Los Altos, CA.

She earned her B.A. at SUNY/Albany and Purdue University, obtained here Ph.D. in Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine, attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, then did her medical residency in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center. There she did her fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Her current research interests are integrated management of complex women's health issues; the role of immunotherapy in fatigue and fibromyalgia; and development of an integrated approach to chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Her career path is (from oldest to most current): Research Technician; Doctoral Candidate in Cell Biology; Teaching Assistant (Histology); Research Associate in Physiology; Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fellow in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (at Duke University Medical Center); Guest Scientist (at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at NIH); Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Co-Director for In Vitro Fertilization Program. She was a Berlex Scholar; Director of Reproductive Endocrine and Infertility Clinic; Director of the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Center; Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Associate Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Director, Reproductive Medicine Institute of Connecticut; and Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine.

Moving to California, she served as Associate Clinical Professor, in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine before embracing her current challenges.

She maintains memberships in the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, American College for the Advancement of Medicine, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Pain Society, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, California Medical Association, International Pelvic Pain Society (past President) and the Santa Clara Medical Association.

Dr. Metzger's honors include (recent to historic): Searle-Donald F. Richardson Memorial Prize, ACOG District I; Berlex Scholar Award; Sigma Xi (Scientific Honor Society); President's Award, Society for Gynecologic Surgeons; ACOG-Ortho Academic Training Fellowship; Second Prize Research Paper, Resident's Day, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Duke University Medical Center; Best Research Paper, Resident's Day, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Duke University Medical Center; Citation for achievement in Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Texas Medical School at Houston; Honors Citation by the American Medical Women's Association; Alpha Omega Alpha (Medical Honor Society); Texas Merit Scholarship; Pendulum Club (Washington, DC) Award for doctoral thesis research proposal; and New York State Regents Scholarship.

She sits on the boards of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (with Certification of Special Qualification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility).

She serves on numerous renowned national and international boards and fellowships, including on the editorial review board of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

She has qualified for more than $2 million in grant support in a variety of topical areas including adhesions, fertility and pain.

She has written or edited 6 books; 32 chapters and reviews; 28 peer reviewed journal articles; 41 abstracts; 58 presentations to community programs regarding fertility, protection against STDs, menopause and related topics; participated in 161 regional programs and 108 national and international programs.
